Active Networks specialise in providing bespoke software solutions and general programming services to small and medium sized businesses.

The case studies below give an example of the type of application development projects we have undertaken in the past.

Case Study 1: ACTIVE Distribution

A customer in the office products industry asked us to look at their current processes for distribution, with the aim of finding a software solution that could minimize costs and maximize efficiency. We discovered that we could achieve the following: automate the process of recording deliveries; save money on printing costs; enable customer tracking of deliveries via the Internet; produce management reports. The software is now known as ACTIVE Distribution and can be tailored to the specific needs of any new customer.

Case Study 2: CFS (Call Forward System)

We were asked to produce software to automate and track the cargo-handling process at airports. Our CFS software achieves the following: deliveries coming into the cargo centre are logged for tracking purposes; lorries are put into a queuing system; lorries are sent to a bay for unloading (via display boards driven by the software); time arrived/departed from bay is logged. The software includes management reports for analysing the whole delivery process and real-time uploading to the Internet for customer tracking.
The CFS system is currently in use by a number of cargo handling companies including Virgin Airways and Lufthansa.

Case Study 3: ACTIVE Progress Toolkit

While working with the Progress system, Active Networks realised there was a need to enable users to connect windows programs to Progress data (and to distribute that information to relevant personnel) at an affordable cost. ACTIVE Progress Toolkit allows real interface between the back office systems and the PC desktop. Automated file transfer routines allow the relevant reports to be moved to the correct user and then into the specified Microsoft application. Each routine is built to specify a bespoke requirement with the aim of removing manual tasks by the end-user.
